A Phenomenological Study on the Pictorial Expression of a Schizophrenic Patient

Abstract

|
An attempt was made to understand the meaning, revealed in a series of pictorial expression of a schizophrenic patient. The patient was a 26 year old male who was admitted to the neuropsychiatric department due to withdrawal, daydreaming, nihilistic concern for body, inferiority complex and aggressive attitude. The characteristics seen in the picture were repetition of bizzare human figure drawings which are geometrically formulated and fragmented. The left side of face or some other part of the body was distinctively differed from the right side of it even on same drawing in color and shape. These findings were suspected to be related to the loss of the vital reality of life, morbid rationalism, antithetic attitude. But the authors found that patient´s intention for the expression, communication and reconstruction was hidden behind the pathological feature through the drawing.
